Bobcats Lose 19 Straight with Loss to Grizzlies

The Charlotte Bobcats are creeping closer towards becoming the word winning percentage NBA team in league history. The Memphis Grizzlies tacked another loss to the Bobcats record, which now stands at 7 wins and 55 losses.  If Charlotte loses their last 4 games, the dubious record will have their name all over it.

Charlotte Bobcat's Gerald Henderson led the team with a career high 32 points in a strong effort.  But the Memphis Grizzlies avoided an embarrassing loss by overcoming an 8 point deficit in the final quarter to hold onto a vital playoff seed in the Western Conference.

The Grizzlies can still climb the playoff  ladder.  Memphis' victory ensures that they will finish at the number 5 spot or better.  Mike Conley scored 20 points, 9 of them in the fourth quarter, to give the Grizzlies a win.

"We knew they were playing for pride and we've been in that situation on the opposite end and we knew we were going to get their best effort," said Conley.

"This was one we needed. This was a big win for us. We locked up the fifth spot and now we have a shot at the fourth seed, so we needed this win," added Conley.

Gerald Henderson led his team in a valiant effort as the Bobcats held several leads in the game including one right before halftime.  Hope of ending the losing streak was present in Charlotte but the Grizzlies came back to take a 39-37 halftime lead thanks to Marc Gasol scoring 6 consecutive points.

"Everyone knows what we're playing for," said Henderson. "We don't want to set that record. There was a little more sense of urgency in our play tonight."

The Bobcats battled to cut down leads and took a  65-57 lead in the fourth quarter.  But again the Grizzlies came back to retake the score.  Henderson made a 3 pointer with 20 seconds left in regulation, but a costly turnover in the next possession may have cost the Bobcats a victory.

"We gave it away. We had some possessions where they just took the ball from us. That led to some fast break dunks. You know, against a team like that, you have to execute on offense and you can't give them easy buckets coming down the stretch," said Henderson"

Even with the loss, Charlotte's coach Paul Silas was proud of his team's efforts.

"This is the experience we need," said Silas. "We really are not an experienced team but any team that we play we have to believe we can be as tough as them and we were tonight. We didn't back down. We didn't give up. We just kept going at it."
