The Red Sox are in first place, 8.5 games above the lowly Yankees. However, that could change in the blink of an eye. The Yankees have been playing exceptional baseball, while the Red Sox have been slumping terrible as of late. The Red Sox are 4-6 in their last 10 games, losers of two consecutive games. Meanwhile, the Yankees are 5-5, sandwiching a three-game winning streak between loses.

The Yankees have received a huge boost from, not Alex "The Rat" Rodriguez, but Alfonso Soriano. He's 10-16 in his last three games with four home runs and 14 RBI. Now that the New York air is back in his lungs and he's taking it back to his old Yankee days when he emerged as one of baseball's young power-hitters. Back then, Soriano hit for average and was a crucial part of the Yankees' lineup. Now, he's once again vital in New York and making a difference behind Robinson Cano.

One guy who wishes he could return to his old Yankee ways is on the mound for the Bronx Bombers, Andy Pettitte. He had a solid start against the Detroit Tigers in his last start, going 4.1 innings, allowing one earned run on eight hits, three walks while recording three strikeouts. He encountered a tough Chicago White Sox team in penultimate start, surrendering seven earned runs in 2.2 innings pitched. In 2013, Pettitte is 1-1 with 3.14 ERA in two starts against the Red Sox.

Opposing Pettitte will be young Red Sox lefty, Felix Doubront. Like Pettitte, Doubront has been inconsistent. He pitched a gem against the Arizona Diamondbacks, pitching seven innings of scoreless ball. Doubront then went only four innings against the Kansas City Royals, while surrending three earned runs. When it comes to the Yankees though, Doubront is a stopper. He's 2-0 with a 1.46 ERA in 12.1 innings pitched.
