It's only NFL Preseason, but fans everywhere have been responding and following the games.
The 49ers of course bring the fire power to this meeting. All the Chiefs have is Jamaal Charles and Alex Smith. Oh, wait! That name sounds familiar. It will be Smith and his Chiefs against his former team, the 49ers. Well that's a headline for you. It might only be a preseason game, but there's a lot of hype behind the Chief's season. They could now have a quarterback that can put the ball in the air and has experience winning.
Last week, Smith was solid. He went 7/8 with 68 yards passed. As expected though, the Chiefs lost and Charles was the only player to get into the end zone. He had five carries for 13 yards. The sad part is that Charles was also the leading receiver with three catches and 27 yards. The Chiefs have a lot of building to do, but they hope their new head coach, Andy Reid can bring over his winning ways from Philadelphia.
The 49ers suffered a 6-10 loss at the hands of the Denver Broncos, the Chiefs' division rivals. Scott Tolzien led the way for the 49ers with 158 passing yards after going 15-26 from the field. However, he was picked off once. Though his numbers were decent, Colin Kaepernick proved solid going 4-4 with 38 passing yards. The Chiefs were able to get it into the end zone, but the 49ers couldn't even muster that against the Broncos last week.
The 49ers are looking for the right mixture of receivers to help Kaepernick get the ball down field. Rookie Vance McDonald is looking to make the roster after his four catches for 66 yards in Week 1. He would join Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis, to veterans that will guide the youngsters in the 49ers roster. Austin Collie is also a 49er this year and had great seasons with Peyton Manning in Indianapolis. Not saying the Kaepernick is going to have a Manning-like career, but the man has a strong arm and he's tremendously accurate.
It's the Chiefs and 49ers in action on Friday evening. Don't miss the action and check out NFL.com's live updates, stats and play-by-play.
