Colin Kaepernick hasn't played an entire season of football, yet, analysts everywhere are already making all sorts of predictions. So will it be Joe Montana, Steve Young and Kaepernick or will the 25-year-old simply become the best of the franchise. Well, according to Ron Jaworski of ESPN, Kaepernick could finishi his career as one of the best in the game.
He's only thrown for 1,814 yards and 10 touchdowns. He's only rushed for 415 yards and five touchdowns in his career in the NFL. However, Kaepernick might be one of the best quarterbacks of all time. Kaepernick is fast and he possesses one of the strongest arms in the league. If he's in trouble in the pocket, opposing cornerbacks better be in the vicinity because he'll take it to the house. If you give him time in the pocket, then you opponents better lock up every receiver.
Kaepernick is a true weapon behind center for the San Francisco 49ers. They have bolstered their receiving core despite losing Michael Crabtree over the offseason. With Vernon Davis, an arguable first ballot Hall of Famer, at the tight end position and Anquan Boldin and Mario Manningham already crowned Super Bowl champions; the 49ers are surrounding Kaepernick with multiple options. Kaepernick couldn't quite become the Tom Brady of 2013, but he has a chance to overshadow the best quarterback of this generation.
Brady isn't a scrambler, but he has a strong arm and high football IQ. Kaepernick has a strong arm and could create plays on the run. Of course, quarterbacks who run don't have the best luck in the NFL. Look at Ben Roethlisberger's career, though he does hold two Super Bowl rings. He's a husky guy, but he gets battered around when he tries to scramble. There's also the most popular running and gunning quarterback in the NFL, Michael Vick, who can't remain healthy an entire season. Last but not least, creating debates in Washington that have nothing to do with politics, Robert Griffin III was injured during the playoffs due to his playing style and possibly a poor coaching decision.
Jaworski was a quarterback himself, more popular for his days with the Philadelphia Eagles. He is currently an ESPN analysts and he knows a few things about the game. Better known as "Jaws", he made a Super Bowl appearance with the Eagles, but they lost to the Oakland Raiders.
Will there be any truth behind Jaws' comments? He believes Kaepernick just needs experience, but second to experience is the 49ers' quarterback's health. If he can remain healthy throughout the years, Kaepernick certainly possesses the skills to make him one of the more unique and successful quarterbacks in the league. In order to be one of the best ever, he'll have to take the 49ers to the big game and win it all at least three times.
