The Green Bay Packers are considering a trade for Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy after the Browns drafted for Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Wheedon in the first round of the NFL draft.
According to sources with the Packer Report, the Packers and Browns are discussing a deal that may involve a bevy of sixth and seventh round draft picks that the Packers have.
The Packers are in need of a backup quarterback to MVP Aaron Rodgers due to the free agent departure of Matt Flynn to the Seattle Seahawks in the off season.
McCoy starred at Texas prior to be drafted in the third round by the Cleveland Browns in 2009. McCoy led the Longhorns to an appearance in the BCS National Championship Game in 2009 and was a runner-up for the Heisman Trophy in 2008.
McCoy did not perform as well for the Browns, posting a 6-15 record, completing 20 touchdowns and 20 interceptions, and a 74.5 passer rating in 21 starts.
The Browns are looking for a more polished quarterback and drafting Wheedon could give them that quarterback. Wheedon is 28 years old and set school records for his quarterback play.
With Wheedon set to start for the Browns, the Browns would be looking to stock up on draft picks and deal the expendable McCoy.
