Houston Rockets Rumors: Royal Ivey Works Out As Spurs Interested In Free Agent, Chris Wilcox Fits With Chicago Bulls After Boston Celtics Release

The NBA offseason is starting to wind down, but that doesn't mean teams still can't improve themselves heading into the 2013-14 calendar and one free agent option that looks like a fit is Royal Ivey with the Houston Rockets.

According to Pro Basketball Talk, Ivey is working out for the Houston Rockets and the San Antonio Spurs and he fits the mold as an end of the bench player, which both teams need. Ivey is a nine-year veteran and could be a solid option off the bench after playing in Philadelphia last season in 52 games, averaging just under four points per game. Ivey has a solid stroke from three at over 40 percent and he could add some depth to the roster.

Ivey could be an option for a number of teams and while the Rockets may be better than the spurs, they already have 18 guys coming to camp so there might not be room for him behind Patrick Beverley anyway. The Spurs are also clogged at the position and could be just kicking the wheels on Ivey. He played in 13 minutes per game last season and his best year came with the Bucks back in 2007 when he played in 75 games and averaged over five points per game.

The Rockets are thinking championship after signing Dwight Howard and the team is building a nice bench with Francisco Garcia, Omri Casspi and Marcus Camby and the team also has Beverley and Jeremy Lin at point guard. The Rockets were one of the highest scoring teams in the league last season but they had issues on defense and training camp will be a good time to get a full review of the roster to see where players fit best.

Another free agent option is Chris Wilcox, as he is done with the Boston Celtics after playing in just 13 minutes per game, but he was solid while on the court. In that short span, Wilcox averaged over four points and three rebounds per game and he could bring some big man depth to a number of teams. Wilcox is waiting out for a chance at a deal as teams try and finalize their rosters before training camp and the big man is also recovering from an injury from last year.

Some other options out there besides Wilcox includes Drew Gooden and Tyrus Thomas as well as Ivan Johnson.
