Day 2 of the 2013 U.S. Open is here. Check out the schedule highlighting the best players in action Tuesday night. Here are the time and matchups of the top ranked players trying to win at the last grand slam event of the tennis season.
At 1 p.m. ET, Caroline Wozniacki (6) sees Ying-Ying Duan of China at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Wozniacki is trying to revisit her U.S. Open performances from 2009-2011. In 2009, she finished as the runner-up and followed the surprising performance with back-to-back semifinal appearances. The 2013 Open season has not treated the 23-year-old from Denmark very well. Her best run came at the Australian Open. She was eliminated in the second round at both the French Open and Wimbledon.
Time: Immediately Following Wozniacki vs. Duan
Roger Federerï¼7) vs. Grega Zemlja- The always dangerous Federer is winless at a grand slam since 2012 Wimbledon. That's really a shocker. The return of Rafael Nadal has nothing to do with Federer's struggles. Blame it on the racket. Federer will cut the games and return to his 90" racket. Federer is 2-0 against Zemlja in his career.
*This match was rescheduled after yesterday's rain out*
7 p.m. ET- Arthur Ashe Stadium
Novak Djokovic (1) vs. Ricardas Berankis
The No. 1 ranked Djokovic looks to make another run in 2013. He was last year's runner-up at the 2012 U.S. Open, losing to Andy Murray in five classic sets. This matchup should not be a tough one as Berankis has never made it beyond the third round at a grand slam event. Djokovic has never been eliminated in the first round at the U.S. Open.
Wrapping up the action for the day will be Victoria Azarenka (2) vs. Dinah Pfizenmaier, immediately following Djokovic's match. Azarenka will also look to return to a championship round at the U.S. Open. She was defeated by Serena Williams in 2012, finishing as the runner-up. She is also looking to make a healthy return following an injury at Wimbledon just a little over a month ago.
