There is no more Venus Williams and Agnieszka Radwanska's little sister is also gone from the tournament. The Women's Singles bracket at the 2013 U.S. Open has seen quite a few eliminations. Here are all the active players who remain in the tournament as we head into the third round of the grand slam.
Serena Williams (1) is working on gaining entrance to the third round at the U.S. Open, where she hopes to defend her title. Her sister couldn't get past the second round, but Serena will try to avoid the same fate.
Sloane Stephens (15) almost suffered a first-round elimination on Monday, but she returned like an ace on Wednesday. Stephens crushed Urszula Radwanska in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, gaining entrance into the third round. Fans at Arthur Ashe Stadium were backing up the American and doubting Radwanska's effort throughout the match.
Na Li (5) might not be American, but she still has her bulk of followers cheering for her in her matches. The Chinese super star easily advanced to the third round after a dominant 6-2, 6-2 victory over Sofia Arvidsson. Li will now get ready to face British sensation, Laura Robson (30) in the third round.
Caroline Wozniacki (6), Maria Kirilenko (14), Petra Kvitova (7) and Ana Ivanovic (13) are all awaiting to play in the second round of the tournament.
Victoria Azarenka (2) has yet to take the court for her second round matchup. She looked very healthy in her first round meeting against Dinah Pfizenmaier, where she put up bagels against the German.
Noticeables: Sara Errani (4) and Samantha Stosur (11) are no longer in the tournament after suffering early defeats at the U.S. Open. Victoria Duval of the USA defeated Stosur, the 2011 U.S. Open Women's Singles champion in three sets, while Errani lost to fellow Italian, Flavia Pennetta in straight sets.
