Chelsea Transfer News: David Luiz Reveals Barcelona Snub; Jose Mourinho Explains Reason Behind Late Exits

Chelsea defender David Luiz revealed he snubbed a move to Barcelona in this summer's transfer window, while Jose Mourinho explained the reasons behind the late exits of some of his players on deadline day.

Luis was the subject of interest from Barca this summer, but Chelsea refused to sell their player, leading to the Spanish champions having to look elsewhere.

The Brazilian international said he was aware of the interest in Barcelona, but chose to stay at Stamford Bridge and is quite happy with the decision.

"There was an official offer (from Barcelona), but I decided to stay at Chelsea," Luiz told Gazeta Esportiva.

"I am happy to play for a big club and be in the national team to represent my country."

There were some players leaving Chelsea, though, with youngsters Victor Moses and Romelu Lukaku going out on loans to Liverpool and Everton respectively.

Mourinho said the decision to let them leave was made for the betterment of their careers, while adding it is now time to forget about transfers and concentrate on matters on the pitch.

"I think it's time for everyone to stop talking about selling and buying players," the Portuguese said.

"There are always little things to do on the last day, people to leave. We have to think about the club, but we also have to think about what is best for the players individually.

"We decided Moses and Lukaku -- two players we were more than happy to keep -- that it's better for the club and the future of the players if they go on loan."

While Moses was expected to be sent out on loan, the Lukaku deal came as somewhat of a surprise. However, according to Mourinho it was the right decision as he could not guarantee the big Belgian a regular place in the starting lineup.

"With Lukaku, we have Fernando (Torres), (Samuel) Eto'o and Demba (Ba)," Mourinho added. Of course he would get playing time, but it's the choice of playing basically every weekend.

"He had lots of clubs and options, and we have to respect his decision."
