Davis will be looking to record his 50th homer Wednesday and is hoping to land one off of Pettite. He hit his 49th homer on Tuesday, but the Yankees managed to even the series with a 7-5 win and will send Pettite to the mound Wednesday to close the deal.
Pettite is 8-0 with a 2.99 ERA in his last 12 regular-season starts against the Orioles. This year alone he is 1-0 against the Orioles with a 3.55 ERA in just two starts. Davis went 1 for 6 in those two games combined with a first inning homer coming on July 6.
The Yankees will also expect David Robertson to be available on Wednesday as well. The reliever had tendinitis in the back of his right shoulder and hasn't pitched a game since last week Thursday.
The team announced Tuesday after the win against the Orioles that they acquired shortstop Brendan Ryan from Seattle, perhaps giving indication that Derek Jeter won't be returning from his sore ankle anytime soon.
