After the tragic shooting that occurred at the Navy Yard in Washington DC, the Washington Nationals postponed their game on Monday night and instead they will play a day-night doubleheader on Tuesday to make up for the postponement.
The Nationals expressed their condolences to the victims and their families and general manager Mike Rizzo released a statement that the team thought the best course of action was to postpone the game since the stadium for the Nationals is not far from the Navy Yard. Rizzo said that the parking lots at the stadium were used after the Navy Yard was evacuated as a place for families and employees to meet with each other and now the teams will play two games on Tuesday to make up for the postponement. The game was called off in the afternoon, according to ESPN.com, and Rizzo said that the players and team employees were in the stadium and clubhouse when the shooting occurred.
The scheduled starters for the game on Monday night were Dan Haren for the Nationals and Mike Minor for the Braves and that matchup will be the first game, while the scheduled starters for the second game are Tanner Roark and Freddy Garcia and that will be the night matchup.
The Nationals need some help to get back in the wild card race, as they are five games back with a 79-70 record after winning the NL East last season. The Braves are on their way to the division title this season and the two teams will play three games.
