Aldon Smith DUI: 49ers Superstar Arrested After Suspicion

After a rough Week 2, the San Francisco 49ers received more bad news as their superstar defensive lineman, Aldon Smith was arrested on suspicion of DUI. According to Marc Sessler of NFL.com, Smith was arrested at 7 a.m. ET in San Jose.

He was also charged with possession of marijuana. This was stated by the Sheriff's Office spokesman, Sgt. Kurtis Stenderup. However, San Jose police couldn't also confirm the same.

Smith was released on $5,250 bail.

For Smith, this is a reoccurring offense. This is the second time in almost two years that Smith has been arrested for DUI and it is not just an issue with Smith, the ball club as a whole has seen five cases of DUI's in less than three years. So for baseball, it is DWI's and apparently, footballers rather smoke a little something.

The 49ers have made no comments regarding the matter as they continue to do more research on the matter.

The last thing the NFL and the 49ers needs is a guy like Smith getting into trouble with the law. Smith is a defensive star in the league and is part of the punishing defense helping the 49ers win in San Francisco. They are off to a 1-1 start after getting creamed by the Seattle Seahawks, 29-3 in Week 2's Sunday Night Football meeting.

Smith has more than half of the team's sacks this season. In two games, Smith has recorded 3.5 of the 49ers' six sacks in 2013. He's also tied fourth with eight tackles in the year. Without a doubt, the 49ers need Smith to stay out of trouble and on the field if they plan on making another Super Bowl appearance this season.

The 49ers prepare to face the Indianapolis Colts in Week 3 of the NFL season.
