After a slow week of college football on the schedule last weekend, ESPN College GameDay will ratchet up with a huge SEC matchup, as the LSU Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs will face off at Sanford Stadium at 3:30 PM on CBS, putting two top 10 teams in the nation along with two of the most talented quarterbacks in Aaron Murray and Zach Mettenberger.
The GameDay crew hit up an FCS school last weekend for North Dakota State and Delaware State but now they are back to their usual business and Chris Fowler will be leading the team of Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit into SEC country. Georgia comes into the game at 2-1 after losing their opening game to Clemson and the Tigers are looking to continue an undefeated season after starting 4-0. LSU is coming off of a 32-21 win over Auburn last week and now the team will play their first road game and that stadium is not very forgiving.
The Tigers have a huge matchup later in the season with Alabama, but they will have to get through the Bulldogs first and they are coming off of two straight wins after losing their opening game 38-35 to Clemson on the road. The Bulldogs start a tough stretch with LSU and to stay in the divisional hunt they will need this game, as the Gators are lurking later in the season as are the Crimson Tide.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 45-21 win over North Texas and that came after a 41-30 victory over then-number six South Carolina and after playing LSU the team will be on the road against Tennessee. That game could be very tough and then the team hosts Missouri before going on the road against Vanderbilt. That game sets up the huge test against Florida and whoever wins that matchup could end up in the SEC championship game, which Georgia lost last season.
Georgie will next play Appalachian State before travelling to Auburn and then they will host Kentucky before going on the road to end the season against Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs have been solid on both sides of the ball this season and Murray has directed a top 10 passing offense, averaging over 350 yards per game through the air and over 500 overall. The team is scoring over 40 points per game and ranks 27th in scoring.
The Tigers are coming off of a home win against Auburn and after playing Georgia the team has Mississippi State on ESPN and then they have a huge game against Florida. The Gators matchup will have big implications for the conference and for Georgia as well and then the Tigers will play against now-number 21 Ole Miss before matching up against Furman. The biggest game of the year will be after that against Alabama and then the team has to play against Johnny Manziel.
The Tigers have a tough stretch to end the season with Alabama and the Aggies and then the team will play Arkansas to finish the year. The team is playing well on offense with over 400 yards per game and the offense is scoring over 40 points per game, while the defense is allowing under 20 points per game. LSU and Georgia each have won one conference game each and if the Bulldogs lose their chance at a BCS spot could be in danger.
