Chicago's "Kid K" is reportedly set to retire Friday. The RHP has decided that after an uncharacteristically tumultuous performance throughout spring training and the still young regular season, it is time to walk away.

Ultimately, nagging injuries from nearly 14 years at the professional level persuaded Wood to hang it up.

Wood was currently in the second year of his second stint with the Chicago Cubs.  If he stays retired, his career will have both started and concluded with the franchise.  Wood also spent time with the Cleveland Indians and the New York Yankees.

The 34 year old Wood had become a closer during the latter years of his career after beginning as an accomplished starting pitcher.  He earned the 1998 Rookie of the Year Award.

Wood finishes his MLB career with a 86-75 record and a 3.67 ERA.  He notched 63 saves.
