MLB Playoff Standings: World Series Matchup Set as Red Sox Win 2013 ALCS

The MLB Playoff Standings has its World Series battle set. The Boston Red Sox defeated the Detroit Tigers in Game 6 of the ALCS, looking up the final spot and become the 2013 American League champs. Here are the results of Saturday's game as the Red Sox disposed of the Tigers.

The answer was Shane Victorino. With the bases loaded in the seventh inning and only one out, Victorino went deep after battling. He sent a low pitch from Al Alburquerque over the Green Monster, hooking a ball down the left field line for the four runs that gave the Red Sox the lead. For Victorino, it was only his third hit of the ALCS, but it could not come at a better time.

This is not the first time Victorino has hit a huge grand slam in the playoffs. As a Philadelphia Philly, Victorino hit a grand salami off CC Sabathia, sending the Phillies to victory. Now, because of their offseason acquisition, the Red Sox are in the World Series. It was surprising that Victorino would provide the thunder, especially after his early struggles. It also appeared as though the Tigers could get out of the inning without facing David Ortiz, the true fear, in the Red Sox's lineup.

Jonny Gomes got the trouble started in the bottom of the seventh inning. Xander Bogaerts proved a great talent after finishing the game 1-3 with a double and a run scored. He patiently worked a walk against Max Scherzer, who went 6.1 innings allowing three earned runs. Jose Iglesias could not handle a Jacoby Ellsbury grounder up the middle and that is when Victorino took over with a grand slam.

The Red Sox will now meet the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2013 World Series. It will be a rematch of the 2004 Fall Classic that saw the Red Sox finally capture their first World Championship in 86 years.THey are different teams, with different players and managers. The Cardinals are guided by terrific pitching, something that was not expected as the Cardinals struggled at certain parts of the year.
