NFL Free Agent Rumors: Jay Cutler Injury Gets Chicago Bears To Sign Jordan Palmer As Tim Tebow Not An Option For Marc Trestman Against Packers

The Chicago bears are dealing with a significant injury after Sunday's shootout loss against the Washington Redskins, as quarterback Jay Cutler suffered a groin injury and while the team is still waiting for an MRI to see how serious it could be, the team is bringing back free agent quarterback Jordan Palmer to the roster.

According to ESPN.com, Cutler will be undergoing an MRI on his groin on Monday to see how serious the injury is and it comes after he left the game in the second quarter after a big hit sack from the Redskins. The team had Josh McCown playing on Sunday in relief of Cutler and he could end up being the starter next game against the Packers, but the Bears have the advantage of a bye week if Cutler needs time to heal. The team previously had Jordan Palmer signed with Trent Edwards after matt Blanchard was injured and now the team's offense could take a big hit with Cutler out.

Cutler's injury was not clear on Sunday night of how serious it was and the play on the sack likely happened after his body came down awkwardly on another player. Although Cutler was able to walk off on his own during the game, he was just three of eight passing for 28 yards and he also had a pick six after having a very solid start to the season. McCown came into the game and had 204 yards passing and a touchdown and he was solid, but the Bears know he is no match for having Cutler out on the field.

Palmer is the brother of Jordan Palmer and with the bye week coming up, Cutler may have enough time to heal up to be ready in time for Monday night football in Week 9, giving him an extra day on top of the bye week. The team doesn't play another game for a while and has the week off from practice and that could help Cutler as well, who has missed time over the previous couple years with other injuries.

Cutler was having a great start to the season with nearly 1,700 yards passing and 12 touchdowns and he looked very comfortable in the offense out together by Marc Trestman. This season he has just seven picks and the team was playing very well while he was completing over 60 percent of his passes. Palmer has played in four career games with the Bengals and has only passed for 59 yards and he also looks a lot like his bro.

One player the Bears likely will not be bringing in is Tim Tebow, as he is getting some interest from the Rams but he most likely will not be coming to the B ears despite a small connection to Marc Trestman. With the bye week coming up the Bears likely will be cautious and that is one reason why Cutler might be able to come back without missing any time. He missed five games in 2011 and one in both 2010 and 2012 and now he could miss time in 2013.
