This is an interesting one: Deadspin.com is reporting on a Miami Herald story that says Mike Miller is considering suing the Miami Heat, his former team, for setting him up with a business associate that turned out to be a con man that defrauded him out of money.
According to Deadspin, the lawsuit alleges that Haider Zafar was introduced to Miller through a Heat employee named Stephen Weber, the Heat's executive vice president of sales and the suit is for $1.7 million. Miller claims that Weber knew that Zafar had purchased "$3 million worth of courtside seats" but was not on time with his payments, so after setting him up with Miller, he used $700,000 to pay back the Heat, which is why he wants the lawsuit.
It alleges that the man also hit James Jones and Rashard Lewis.
From the Herald: "Prior to introducing Zafar to Miller and prior to representing that Zafar was a suitable business and investment partner, the Heat... and Weber had a duty to fully investigate whether that patron was, in fact, a suitable partner," Miller's complaint says.
"Upon discovering information that would have led a reasonable person to conclude that Zafar was a fraud,... the Heat and Weber had a duty to notify Miller, instead of continuing to endorse Zafar.... Due to the acts and omission of the Heat and Weber, Zafar was able to steal a large amount of money from Miller."
