Cardinals vs. Red Sox Score: World Series Game 3 Updates

Follow the scores of Game 3 as the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox continue their journey in the 2013 World Series. The pitching matchup will be vital and here is what both pitchers bring to the table.

Here's a look at what Peavy has provided for the Red Sox in two starts this postseason.
ALDS vs. Tampa Bay Rays: 5.2 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 0BB, 3 SO
ALCS vs. Detroit Tigers: 3 IP, 7 ER, 5 H, 3 BB, 1 SO

The first start is what the Red Sox would like to see more after. That's what they traded for. However, his last start against the Tigers was horrendous. Peavy stated in Game 2 that he had worked on his mechanics and that he feels a lot more confident after having some time to prepare for his start.

Apparently, the five hits are consistent, but Peavy's control is not. He walked three batters in his game against the Tigers and they proved costly. Peavy has not surrendered any home runs, which can help protect against big innings, but he will have to avoid walking Cardinals at all costs.

Joe Kelly posted the following numbers in his three postseason starts.
NLDS vs. Pittsburgh Pirates Game 3: 5.1 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 4 BB 5 SO
NLDS vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Game 1: 6 IP, 2 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 5 SO
NLCS vs. Los Angeles Dodgers: Game 5: 5 IP, 4 ER, 7 H, 0 BB, 3 SO

So Kelly's problem is either he's around the stikezone, but getting hit or he's somewhat wild and walking hitters. He lost his last start against the Dodgers as they smacked the Cardinals around in that game. Kelly surrendered two home runs, though he did not walk anybody in that game. However, in his two previous starts, he made teams work to get their runs. The one thing Kelly can guarantee the Cardinals is that he will keep them in the game. Mike Matheny should have guys warming up in the bullpen or at least ready mentally to enter the game in case Kelly cannot handle the Red Sox' lineup.
