Kenny Britt has been hearing the trade rumors for weeks now. As the NFL trade deadline approaches in mere hours on Tuesday, the Tennessee Titans receiver is one of the most popular names being brought up. Several teams have lost players for the season with injuries leaving Britt a hot target. As his time with the Titans will either end Tuesday or at the end of the season, Britt is hopeful a deal gets done today.
"It would be great to stay, as long as they're giving me opportunities that I should get, especially since I've been working hard and doing the right things out there," Britt said, via John Glennon of the Tennesseean. "Going somewhere else and having a fresh start, it would be good also. But where my mind is right now is just probably staying here because everything is here - my family is here and stuff like that."
Britt is in a contract year with the Titans and things have not gone well for him. Justin Hunter and Kendall Wright have emerged as top young talents for quarterback Jake Locker. The receiver has had several spats with the coaching staff over playing time. He was benched for poor route running and sloppy play. So far this year, he has caught eight passes in six games. He is no longer a starter, playing just 22 snaps in the past two weeks.
Britt has been attempting to not let frustrates get to him. While he has been battling injuries, the wide receiver still is not making the most of his playing time. He was recently flagged for unnecessary roughness after getting into a fight with San Francisco 49ers cornerback Tarell Brown.
"Mainly at the end of the game it was just frustrating, not getting in there and not getting to play enough time," Britt said. "You know you've been doing everything you can to get out there and they're telling you you're going to get some more plays than you do. Then you get aggravated - when you're already frustrated - when some guy takes a cheap shot at you. Most guys out there, if they take a cheap shot at you, they're going to react, and usually the second guy gets caught."
The best option for Britt could be the Detroit Lions. The team just announced Ryan Broyles was done for the season after hurting his Achilles tendon. The team does not need a starting wide receiver, just someone that would work well in a rotation. Britt could step in and be productive on the limited bases the team need him. Nate Burleson will be returning in the next two weeks. Britt could play with little pressure.
The Miami Dolphins are an option after injuries have taken out Brandon Gibson. The New England Patriots are always looking for added wide receiver depth. Both Britt and Tennessee want a trade to happen by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, it is just a matter of which team bites.
