Both Spaniards have faced off before. Coming into the tournament, Nadal is ranked No. 1 in ATP, while Ferrer is No. 3. These have already met in a championship as Nadal defeated Ferrer in the 2013 French Open, claiming his record eighth title at Roland Garros. Ferrer has not been the only tennis player to suffer at the hands of Nadal. The list is endless. 

Coming into the World Tour Finals, Nadal has claimed 10 singles titles, posting a 71-6 record, earning double-digits in millions this season. For Ferrer, 2013 has been okay. He has established himself as one of the best players in the world, consistently making quarterfinals at this year's grand slam tournaments.

Nadal is overwhelmingly the favorite in this matchup as the 27-year-old has won 20 of the 25 matches between the two Spaniards. However, Ferrer is fresh off a victory over Nadal at the ATP World Tour Masters 100 in Paris, France. He eliminated Nadal in straight sets in the semifinals. The victory snapped a nine-game losing streak to Nadal.

Currently, the first set of this matchup wrapped up with Nadal winning, 6-3. The second set is on its way.
