Balotelli: I will kill someone if they throw bananas

Italy striker Mario Balotelli said he would walk off the pitch if he is racially abused at the European Championships while also claiming he would kill someone if they threw a banana at him.

There has been increasing concern about the safety for black players with several reports showing Ukraine, one of the co-hosts along with Poland, to be unsafe.

England players Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have told their families not to travel in fear of racial abuse while former Arsenal and England defender Sol Campbell advised supporters to watch Euro 2012 on TV, or risk coming back in a body bag.

Speaking to France Football, Balotelli said he would not tolerate any kind of racial abuse. "I will not accept racism at all. It is unacceptable. If someone throws a banana at me, I will go to jail, because I will kill them."

The Manchester City striker has had to bear the brunt of racism before, once being pelted with bananas in a Rome bar in June, 2009. "It was lucky that the police arrived quickly, because I swear I would have beaten them. I would have destroyed them. I hope it never happens again."

"Let's see what happens at the Euros. I hope it passes without a problem. I really couldn't deal with it."

Balotelli had also been abused by Juventus fans while playing for Inter Milan with Juve being forced to play behind closed doors. He was most recently targeted by Porto fans in the Europa League in February with the club fined for their supporters behaviour.

"I remember very well the Juventus game, but I also scored a goal. I had to pretend I hadn't seen or heard anything. I wanted to play, I was young. It was up to me to tell the referee, but if I had told the referee to stop the match, I wouldn't have scored."

Balotelli also suggested his future lies with City. "I would like to stay with City, because here I have affection. Will I stay, I don't know. I think so."

"It's good luck that (manager) Roberto Mancini appreciates and understand me. Mancini always gives me confidence. Those who know me, love me. Those who don't know, love me too or they hate me.

"It's said that geniuses are misunderstood. Maybe it's because the genius is so different that people are not capable of understanding them. Yes, I think I am a genius."
