Celtics vs. Heat: Eastern Conference Finals Rondo's 44 Not Enough

If effort directly translated into wins then Rajon Rondo would have given the Boston Celtics the victory they sought in Game 2. The Miami Heat were able to defeat the Celtics in overtime 115-11, taking a 2-0 lead in the series.

Lebron James led the way for the Heat with 34 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. He made pivotal free throws at the end of the game, giving them just enough to pull off the victory.

On a night where both teams exchanged blows, the Heat were able to put this one away in overtime. The dagger; a Dwyane Wade layup with just under a minute left, as he was fouled by Kevin Garnett.

Even though the Heat won the game, the story of the night was Rondo's incredible performance. He finished the night with 44 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds joining the likes of Tracy McGrady, Charles Barkley, Clyde Drexler, Jerry West and Oscar Robertson.

By the end of the first quarter he already had 8 points. He led Boston to a 15 point lead with 4 minutes left in the second quarter.

However, the Heat were able to trim that lead with the huge three-point shots from Mario Chalmers and James was chipping at the lead from the free throw line. They only trailed the Celtics by seven at the half.

Wade turned it up a notch scoring 12 of his 23 points in the third quarter. He came up with a momentum changing block with four minutes left in the third, as Ray Allen failed to capitalize on an open layup.

The Heat took over and the Celtics offense came to a sudden standstill. Boston looked like a completely different team and one had to wonder if they would be able to score the way they did in the beginning of the game.

It seemed like the Heat did not want this game though.

What made the game unnecessarily close was the Heat's 16 missed free throws. James also failed to make a jumper over the shorter Rondo at the end of regulation, which ultimately forced overtime.

The Celtics starters had decent games but their bench only scored seven points. Mike Miller alone had seven points in Game 2.

It should concern the Celtics that they blew a 15-point lead in last night game. What is even more upsetting is that they could not win on a night when Rondo was absolutely on fire.

Game 3 will be played in Boston on Friday night. The Heat should consider themselves lucky to be up 2-0. If the Celtics are able to jump out to a 15-point lead at home or Rondo has a game remotely close to his Game 2 performance, the Heat will not be able to come back on the road.
