Peyton Manning Stats 2013: Denver Broncos QB Sets Single Season Passing Yards and Touchdown Records, Team Scores Most Points To Break Patriots Mark

The NFL season is now into the playoffs and in the regular season no team put up better numbers than the Denver Broncos on offense and now they have have put up better stats than anyone else in history, as they broke the record set by the New England Patriots by scoring over 600 points and Peyton Manning set multiple records in the passing game with single season yardage and touchdowns.

Manning broke the record set by Patriots quarterback Tom Brady last week after passing his 50-touchdown mark and he added five more after that to get to 55 on the season and in the Broncos victory against the Raiders to end the season, Manning finished the first half with four touchdowns and 266 yards to finish the season with 5,477 passing yards, one more than Drew Brees did two years ago and now he has the two top records for quarterbacks in a single season and he likely will be winning another MVP award along with it. The Broncos are 13-3 now heading into the playoffs and will be the number one seed and they have home field advantage in the AFC.

Manning ended up with 55 scores and just 10 picks on the season and he completed a high number of his passes and in the game against the Raiders he missed on just three of his 28 passes and did not even need to play in the second half. The Broncos went up 31-0 at that point and finished the game with a 34-14 score to end the season with 606 points, passing the record set by the Patriots of 589 points on the year.

The team is coming into the playoffs looking to avenge the loss they had last season against the Baltimore Ravens and now they don't have to worry about the Super Bowl champions haunting them again, as they did not make the playoffs. Demaryius Thomas scored the touchdown that helped put the Broncos in the record books and now the team will play against the lowest seed after the wild card weekend and the games include the Kansas City Chiefs taking on the Indianapolis Colts and the San Diego Chargers playing the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Denver Broncos have had a record setting season on all counts on the offensive side of the ball, as the team broke the mark of the Patriots from six seasons ago with over 600 points scored and Peyton Manning ended up with the single season passing yards record after already breaking the mark for most passing touchdowns in a season and now he has the best offensive numbers of any quarterback of all time and here is a look back on the game and the records from the Broncos from Reuters.com. Peyton Manning and his Denver Broncos ended the regular season by posting more entries in the NFL record books during a 34-14 road win over the Oakland Raiders on Sunday.

Manning, who last week surpassed New England quarterback Tom Brady's single season record of 50 touchdown passes, set a standard for most passing yards in a season, and the Broncos established a league high for points scored. Denver improved to 13-3 and secured home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Manning's 63-yard TD pass to Demaryius Thomas pushed the Broncos past the NFL record of 589 points in a season set six years earlier by the Patriots. Denver finished with 606.

The quarterback's second scoring connection to Thomas, this time a five-yard strike, gave Manning 5,477 passing yards on the season to surpass the record 5,476 yards by New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees in 2011.

Manning threw four first-half TD passes to give him 55 this season as Denver held a 31-0 lead before he took a seat on the bench for the rest of the game, mission accomplished.

Two years removed from a series of neck surgeries that sidelined him for a full season and threatened to end his career, the 37-year-old Manning typically preferred to look on his showing as part of a team effort. "Guys have paid the price and sacrificed in order to get in this position. It is fun to play with guys like that who have that kind of work ethic and passion," added Manning, who finished the game completing 25-of-28 passes for 266 yards.

Manning's record-breaking season ended with him connecting on 450-of-659 passes for 55 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

The quarterback spoke of adversities the team had overcome.

"It's a season unlike any other for me as far as when your head coach is ill and miss him for a while," Manning said, referring to coach John Fox, who missed four games after having a heart valve replacement. Manning said a stunning statistical season was far from his thoughts as he fought his way back to the gridiron after his neck problems. (Reuters)
