The Tigers went 9-3 this season overall and they played very well for stretches bout at times the offense and defense did not click in the same game and that led to some blowouts, including the shoot out with Georgia that LSU lost. Going 5-3 in the SEC is always impressive, especially when the team plays in the same division as Alabama and Auburn and against toes goes in the SEC West the team ended up 4-2 and they played fairly well in big games while going 3-2 against the Top 25.

LSU won their last two games of the season against Arkansas and Texas A&M, who was ranked with Johnny Manziel at the time and the team also lost to Alabama when they were ranked number one in the nation and now the Crimson Tide will play against Oklahoma in the BCS Sugar Bowl. The Tigers won three of their last four to finish the season and the team opened the year 4-0 before losing to Georgia in a shootout 44-41 and that game was one of the most thrilling in the SEC this season. The Tigers also won matchups against Mississippi State and Florida when the Gators were still ranked and then the team lost to Ole Miss in a close game. The Tigers are ranked 30th in points against on defense with 22 points allowed per game and averaging over 460 yards per game total on offense and that could make it a tough day for the Hawkeyes.

Iowa won three of their last four games of the season heading into the bowl game against LSU and the finished winning three games in a row against Nebraska, Michigan and Purdue after losing to Wisconsin and to end the year they won four of five, with the other game coming against Northwestern in overtime. Before that team lost to Big Ten finalists Ohio State and Michigan State and they gave the Buckeyes their first big test of the season and that came after the Hawkeyes started 4-1 on the year after opening 2013 with a close three point loss to Northern Illinois.

LSU comes into the matchup averaging over 260 yards passing per game and now it will be on Jennings to keep that up and Hill will get a steady dose of touches in the game and he has helped the team rush for over 200 yards per game this season and the defense has been playing well averaging less than 25 points allowed this season and they are matching up against a very good Big Ten defense in the Hawkeyes, who are ranked as one of the top teams in the nation with just 18 points allowed per game this season and they come in having won their last three against some tough schools in the conference.

The Hawkeyes come into the game averaging just under 30 points per contest on offense and the team has done a good job rushing the ball, averaging 188 yards per contest this season. Running back Mark Weisman has rushed for 938 yards this season with seven touchdowns and he will be the main focus for the LSU defense on Wednesday with quarterback Jack Rudock, who has passed for 2,281 yards and 18 touchdowns and he should be back in the lineup after leaving the game against Nebraska and the two teams come in with 36 bowl victories between them and LSU has lost three of their last four bowl game matchups.
