The Houston Texans had a terrible season in 2013 and after losing 14 straight games, they head into the 2014 NFL Draft with the number one overall pick and that means they have the chance to select a franchise quarterback if that's who they want to pick and some options for the team at the top are likely Louisville star Teddy Bridgewater or South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.
Both Bridgewater and Clowney declared for the draft soon after their bowl games and the two players have often times been described as options for the number one overall draft pick along with Johnny Manziel. The Texans are in an interesting spot, as they went to the playoffs in 2012 and were division winners before playing terribly in 2013 and losing all but two games, meaning they have some prime talent and now with the number one overall pick, this could be a Kansas City Chiefs situation, as in: a quick turnaround under a new head coach, this one being Bill O'Brien, who was hired away from Penn State.
The Texans come into the offseason with major questions at the quarterback position, as Matt Schaub regressed this season and Case Keenum is undrafted and did not win a game for the team. Bridgewater is expected to be the number one pick in the draft and is considered by experts to be the top player at his position and he could be one to build around after he leaves Louisville. This season Bridgewater passed for nearly 4,000 yards and he had over 30 touchdowns and that makes him a very likely pick at the top of the draft and comes as the 21-year-old finishes his third season for the team.
Bridgewater has put together some great stats during his time for the Cardinals, passing for nearly 10,000 yards and over 70 touchdowns and this season he only had four interceptions as he led his team to a 12-1 record and all that should make him a very high selection. Bridgewater ended his season on a high note as well, passing for 447 yards, a career high, and three scores as Louisville won over Miami in their bowl game.
Clowney was looked at as the presumptive number one pick heading into the season because ESPN played his hit on Michigan RB Vincent Smith on a loop for a year and hyped him up beyond all reasonability, but now that the draft is coming, Clowney could end up back as the number one pick even though he had a less than stellar season. Clowney had 13 sacks as a sophomore and finished sixth in the Heisman voting and after dealing with some injuries he finished the regular season with three sacks and had 24 in his career before the bowl game. The Gamecocks won the Capital One Bowl against Wisconsin and after that Clowney declared and now he could be the number one overall pick.
