The New York Jets had a much better season than many expected under Rex Ryan and with the head coach returning for another year, the NFL draft will be make a big impact on what the team will look like next season and with the number 18 pick in the draft coming their way, the team has plenty of options and some names include wide receiver Mike Evans, Marqise Lee, Kelvin Benjamin, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix or tight ends like Jace Amaro and Eric Ebron.
The Jets need to give Geno Smith and their offense more weapons and players like Evans, Lee and Benjamin all could be available at that point of the draft and that should be the focus for the Jets after picking Sheldon Richardson and Dee Milliner in the first round last year. The Jets had issue surrounding Mark Sanchez with talent when he was the starter and despite drafting Stephen Hill, the team needs to get more offensive weapons and drafting someone like Lee, Sammy Watkins, Benjamin or Evans could help transform the offense.
The Jets lost Dustin Keller to free agency last season and while Kellen Winslow and Jeff Cumberland were solid, the team desperately needs a new starter and that's where Amaro could come in. The team should be looking at receivers and there is a chance that the top names could be off the board by the time they pick, leaving Amaro as a solid option to add to the offense. The Texas Tech offense last season was very prolific and he could be the best options left if the wideouts and Ebron are off the board. Geno Smith needs a consistent safety net in the offense and getting one of these new hybrid tight ends could be huge for his development.
Ebron is expected to be one of the top tight ends in the draft this season and he could be the first one off the board after making 62 catches last season for North Carolina for 973 yards and three touchdowns and he was very impressive down the stretch and is the all-time leader at the school for single season and career stats at his position in yards and catches. Ebron fits the mold of what a number of teams want to do at the position now and he had a very impressive performance against the Miami Hurricanes with an eight-catch, 199 yard performance that included a 71-yard touchdown.
Last season the Jets went 8-8 after many expected them to finish in the bottom of the AFC East and they ended the season with a win against the Miami Dolphins that knocked the team out of the playoff race. Rex Ryan is returning and the team comes back ranked 31st in passing yards per game and that's why players like Evans and Lee could be great selections for the Jets.
