I'll Have Another Will Not Run at Belmont; Triple Crown Hopes Dashed

Due to a torn tendon in I'll Have Another's rear left leg, the horse will no longer be attempting to obtain the first Triple Crown in over 30 years.

The horse's trainer, Doug O'Neill, broke the news Friday while appearing on "The Dan Patrick Show" and stated that the horse will not be competing.

I'll Have Another was victorious at both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, which put him in line to make a run at history on Saturday.  The last winner of the Triple Crown, Affirmed, accomplished the feat in 1978. The Belmont morning line had placed I'll Have Another at 4-5 odds to win.

The New York Racing Association is expected to publicly address the issue during a press conference scheduled for 1 PM EDT.

Crowds of over 100,000 were expected to attend the Belmont Stakes Saturday. It will be worth monitoring if those projected numbers take a considerable hit now that the main draw will not be included on the race card.
