What Does Seahawks LOB Mean? Richard Sherman Leads Legion Of Boom Seattle To SB XLIX For Repeat Chance

As Super Bowl week gets closer, the Seattle Seahawks are getting ready for a repeat chance after winning last season. Once again, many fans have wondered what the Seattle Seahawks Legion of Boom is after Richard Sherman announced the LOB in his famous Erin Andrews interview. The group will take center stage again at the Super Bowl, as the LOB title is the nickname for the secondary that includes Sherman, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor and the rest of the secondary.

UPDATE: This post is from last year, but the Seattle Seahawks have made it to the Super Bowl after winning against the Packers. They will play in Super Bowl XLIX.

The nickname is a play on words from the "Legion of Doom", the villainous group from the Super Friends that battled Superman and Batman, but for the Seahawks it's a term of endearment. The team is not comprised of villains, they simply are tough, fierce and hard hitting and they will bring that swagger to Super Bowl Sunday at MetLife Stadium, as they are the top ranked defense in the league.

This season Sherman has established himself as one of the best corners in the league and the LOB name stems back from Chancellor, who used the name on a radio appearance last year and now the team has taken it to heart. The Seahawks have built their secondary through the draft and since they are young, it means no one playing on Sunday in the backfield defense for Seattle has faced off against Peyton Manning and names like Chancellor and cornerback Byron Maxwell were taken in the draft and not always that high.

Earl Thomas was a high pick out of Texas and Pete Carroll knew what he was getting in him when he picked him 14th in 2010. All three players were All-Pro last season and now the defense has the top ranked unit in the league and they are getting ready to lower the boom.
