Dallas Cowboys Free Agent Rumors: Jared Allen, Darren McFadden, Greg Hardy, Richie Incognito, Henry Melton Top Targets With DeMarcus Ware Released?

The Dallas Cowboys enter the free agent period with questions at a number of positions and with Tony Romo on the mend and the defense struggling after the final game last season, players like Jared Allen, Darren McFadden, Greg Hardy, Richie Incognito and Henry Melton are the top targets for Jason Garrett if the team has to release DeMarcus Ware or Miles Austin.

The Cowboys had the chance to make the playoffs last season and faltered in their final game at home against the Philadelphia Eagles to miss out once again and now they have to figure out a way to get back. The team has some money to spend, but they have a tight salary cap situation and with free agents like Anthony Spencer and Jason Hatcher, they will have to find a way to keep essential players and add new ones.

The team got some great play out of DeMarco Murray last season, but he has not been as consistent as they would like and the Cowboys ranked 24th in the league in rushing and that is why they could add someone like McFadden. The Raiders are likely letting McFadden go after he has been banged up over the past few years and while the last thing the Cowboys need is another injured RB, Jerry Jones loves his Razorbacks and he could be the latest to join up, especially if he doesn't cost as much as many predict he will ask for.

The Cowboys are already reportedly $22 million projected over the salary cap and that means someone like Miles Austin or DeMarcus Ware will get cut, while Tony Romo needs to restructure his contract for any chance of the team making moves. The Cowboys have some glaring holes on defense and names like Allen and Hardy could shore that up as well. According to ESPN.com, DeMarcus Ware and Austin could be on the chopping block due to their contracts and with the financial situation the way it is, the Cowboys may have no choice but to cut them loose.

The team ranked 30th in passing yards allowed per game and 27th in rushing allowed and that means a cornerback in the draft is an option and linebacker will also be a main focus. The team ranked 14th in passing yards per game and 24th in rushing and finished 8-8 again and now Jones may have to try some drastic measures to get things back to the normal Cowboys way.
