Trade rumors involving Kevin Love have been surrounding the Minnesota Timberwolves star ever since he signed his extension with the team and options like the Los Angeles Lakers, NY Knicks, Chicago Bulls, Clippers and Brooklyn Nets have been proposed and teaming him up with the likes of Carmelo Anthony or Blake Griffin could be a superstar pairing for the ages.
Love comes into the All-Star break as one of the top young players in the league and he is just a couple years away from cashing in big time, but many in the league wonder if that will be with the Timberwolves. According to ESPN.com, the 2015 options for Love if he opts out as a free agent could be the Lakers, Knicks or Chicago Bulls and those teams may try and clear space leading up to that summer to try and snag him, while those names could also try to trade for him before he becomes a free agent.
The star will be a free agent in 2016 if he decides to stay and the Timberwolves could coax him into doing that with some trades on their own. The team has been looking into making deals to try and convince Love to stay with the team and that is their best bet at doing it, as the entire NBA will be going after him if he ever hits the market. Last season the team had expectations of making the playoffs but those fell through after Love and Ricky Rubio were injured and now the team is a few games under .500 heading into the All-Star break.
The team has taken some hits again this season with Kevin Martin going down for an indefinite period of time and that could spark the team to make some moves after he has been averaging 19 points per game this season and playing over 30 minutes. What happens with Carmelo Anthony is going to be interesting to see how the Knicks try and tackle Love, while the Lakers have been the team that is most likely to sign him if he makes it to the market, as they will have tons of cap space and only a couple players signed at that time.
Only time will tell for the Wolves.
