Robert Lewandowski comes in leading Borussia Dortmund in scoring and assists and they are heading out to Russia to visit Zenit St Petersburg and it comes as they are far down on the Bundesliga table and this is a chance to make up for that. Dortmund midfielder Sven Bender is going to be out for over a month and that will be a big hit for the team and he is out now with a groin for 10 weeks and that could lead to a move later down the line. Bender can't work out for at least a month and with 12 games left on the schedule he joins a growing list of players that will be out of action and now he will miss the chunk of the Bundesliga schedule towards the back end.
The round of 16 first leg tie gives Dortmund a chance to get things right and they are hoping to advance and the team will likely be without Mats Hummels after his foot injury and that is another one they will have to deal with. Dortmund is out of contention in their league and now they have the chance to keep it going here in the Champions League and they come in after gaining 12 points in the group stage and the other team had half of that and now they get back into action and there has been a break in the Russian league and that could give the team an advantage as well.
The Premier League for Zenit St Petersburg hasn't played since December and that will give Dortmund some advantage heading into the match and the Russian side has tried to remain in shape and their manager said the team has been ready for this matchup. The schedule continues on Wednesday with Real Madrid visiting Schalke and Galatasaray hosting Chelsea before a return to Stamford Bridge and the match on Tuesday comes before Manchester United, while next week things pick back up again with Atletico Madrid as well as AC Milan and Bayern Munich will host Arsenal in their second match.
