Virginia and Maryland are playing on Sunday afternoon at the Comcast Center in an ACC college basketball game and the Cavaliers come in as conference champs and the Terrapins are looking to get their resume together heading into tournament time and the matchup starts at 12 pm noon on CBS and is streaming online.
Virginia comes in as the fifth ranked team in the nation and they won the ACC conference regular season title with their win against Syracuse and now they are 25-5 on the season and they are trying to finish with just one loss in the ACC. The team last won over Syracuse to take the title and that was a dominating win and showed why the team has the best defense in the nation and that could be what gives them a leg up come March Madness and now they face off against Maryland to finish off the season.
Virginia coach Tony Bennett has praised his team and their commitment to defense and Malcolm Brogdon has been a huge part of the success of the team, as he is leading in scoring and is second in rebounding and assists with five and two per game to go along with his 12 points per contest. Brogdon scored 19 points in the game against the Orange and the team comes in on a nice winning streak, having won 13 games in a row and their last loss was back in January and that was against Duke and the Cavaliers could be a dark horse in the tourney. The Cavs come into the game scoring 66 per contest and their defense is ranked first in the nation with just 54 points allowed per game and they are ranked in the top 100 in rebounds per game as well.
Maryland comes into the game after winning in a blowout against Virginia Tech and the team now plays against Virginia and they are averaging over 70 points per game this season. The team is ranked in the top 40 in rebounds per game and they are allowing 67 points per contest, while they are 55th in rebounding. Virginia faces off against Maryland now in the final ACC game for both teams.
