The NY Yankees and Washington National are playing on Tuesday in the spring training Grapefruit League and the game will start at 1:05 pm and gives CC Sabathia his second start of the spring and allows New York to try and come back after a loss to the Rays the previous weekend.
The Yankees have been looking very solid in spring training and the new additions of Brian McCann, Carlos Beltran, Jacoby Ellsbury and Masahiro Tanaka have made a big impact on the team. The Yankees next will play against the Detroit Tigers after playing against the Rays and they come into the season looking to improve their offense in all aspects, as they ranked in the bottom half of the league in runs, batting average, on base and slugging percentage.
Robinson Cano is gone to the Mariners and now Sabathia, who has lost a ton of weight this offseason, gets back on the mound and at 33 years old he needs to be the ace again the Yankees signed. Sabathia is getting older and he had a down season in 2013 and now he is looking to get things back on track and feeling good in the spring is a big part of that. The Yankees have to get through the Boston Red Sox to win and they signed Tanaka to help that and the team is looking to ensure they make it back to the playoffs.
The team needs to finish out their starting rotation and Derek Jeter is coming back from a serious injury and whatever they do at the top of the lineup will be important. The team has Ichiro as the odd man out and trades could be coming for him and David Phelps, but so far there has not been much movement. For now, spring training against the Nationals on Tuesday.
