NFL Draft Rumors 2014: Kansas City Chiefs Like Sammy Watkins, Jordan Matthews, Jarvis Landry, Brandin Cooks, Mike Evans, Marqise Lee After Emmanuel Sanders Loss

The NFL draft is fast approaching and the Kansas City Chiefs are a team that may target names like Jordan Matthews, Jarvis Landry, Brandin Cooks, Mike Evans, Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson, as they have a big need at wide receiver and with a class this deep, there is a good chance they will get at least one of the top 10 prospects at the position.

The Chiefs come into the draft with the number 23 overall pick in the first round and since they got rid of their second round pick with the 49ers for the Alex Smith trade that could be their best chance at snagging one of the top receivers. Watkins and Evans will be off the board long before the team picks unless they pull off a trade and since that is unlikely, names like Cooks, Lee and Landry could be better targets for Andy Reid. The team lost Dexter McCluster and they had a need at WR all season and now they could go after one of those names when the draft comes in May.

The draft has a very deep class of receivers and that is why the Chiefs are likely to get at least one name by the time things are all done with. The team could avoid picking one in the first or third rounds and they still should be okay, but for one of the top talents in the draft they likely will have to make it early, especially with the way the league is turning with the passing game. Cooks is one of the most interesting options in the draft, as he is a smaller receiver but was very productive last year, going for 28 receptions for 1,730 yards and winning the Biletnikoff Award out of Oregon State.

The Beavers threw more than anyone in college football last season apart from a few teams and while that may have inflated his numbers, his yards after the catch stats were very impressive and he showed great control with his hands throughout the year and eh has very good speed as well and could be a perfect option to play the slot. Lee likely would have been a top 10 pick if he was able to come out two years ago, but after a so-so season at USC in 2013, he will likely be a mid-first round pick and that puts the Chiefs right in his wheelhouse and they could make that selection at number 23.

Beckham and Landry was the best WR tandem in football last season and they put up some very good numbers and they could be in the mix if Lee or Jordan Matthews are picked in the middle of the first round. Alex Smith needs more weapons on offense and after having DeSean Jackson in Philly, getting someone like Cooks could be huge for head coach Andy Reid. Evans is pushing into the top 10 and he will be long gone when the Chiefs come up and Watkins is looking like he will be a top five pick this year.
