The Cleveland Indians and the Oakland Athletics have double duty on the MLB schedule, as they had a game rained out and postponed on Tuesday and now the two teams will get the chance to start up again on Wednesday and they are playing a day night doubleheader, with Scott Kazmir getting one start and Corey Kluber gets the other at O.co Coliseum starting up online at 3:35 pm ET.
The A's come in after another successful season and the Indians made the playoffs under Terry Francona last season after he took over and now they have the chance to get off to a nice start to the season. Kazmir was with the Indians last season and they helped him make a comeback from his injuries over the past few years and he comes in after going 10-9 last season for the team and he was very strong and now he will be going for the Athletics against his old team. Kazmir wasn't sure he'd ever pitch again at one point and now he comes in after signing a two-year, $22 million deal with Oakland over the winter.
The Athletics have had postseason success in recent years and they have lost 10 straight games on Opening Day and while the Mariners have won eight, meaning not much means anything from Opening Day success, the team is hoping to turn things around and they lost 2-0 to start the season against the Indians. Josh Donaldson will be the main focus for the Athletics after he had a fine season last year and he had over 20 home runs and nearly 100 RBIs while hitting over .300 as well. Donaldson has hit well at home against the Indians and he already has one home run off of Kluber in his career.
Both teams had to shuffle things around after the A's had their first home game postponed by rain in years and now they come in trying to score their first runs of the season with Kazmir on the mount. The Indians next will play the Athletics on Wednesday night after the early game and they still have a home opener to look forward to as well. Yan Gomes signed with the team to an extension and he has been one of the most consistent players for the team and both Cleveland and Oakland are looking to make playoff appearances for the second straight season. Athletics' closer Jim Johnson did not get it done on Opening day for the team, but he is expected to be a major contributor this season after coming over from the Orioles.
