The Boston Red Sox and the NY Yankees are playing at Yankee Stadium in New York for their MLB game on Friday night and after the baseball game on Thursday saw some pine tar fun, the matchup has Jon Lester and CC Sabathia pitching and it starts up at 7:05 pm ET and will be streaming from the MLB.com website.
The Yankees are coming in after a nice win against the Sawx and they now are 5-5 on the season and they are now first in the AL East and while Michael Pineda had some pine tar issues come up after the game, it was not an issue, since everyone in baseball does it anyway. The Yankees will be without Brett Gardner in the lineup and that means some shuffling for Joe Girardi, as Derek Jeter will not be in the leadoff spot and Ichiro Suzuki gets his first action against the Red Sox as he will play in left field. The Yankees have been up and down to start the season, but they hope that having Sabathia on the mound at home will help that and he is making his first start at the stadium after a tough outing against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Yankees got a win from Pineda in his first start at the Stadium and every time the Mariners see that man pitch they must die a little on the inside with the way they pulled off that trade with Jesus Montero. Pineda was sharp and so was his fastball and it left Clay Buchholz with the loss after a couple of home runs, while David Phelps continued the closer by committee now that David Robertson is hurt, getting his first save of the season and now he will be a very key part of the bullpen.
The Yankees will have John Lackey against Hiroki Kuroda on the mound on Saturday for the afternoon game and they come into the matchup now with nearly 40 runs scored and they are seventh in batting average and fifth in on base percentage. The pitching in the rotation has done very well, as they are fifth in the league in quality starts already. The Red Sox come into the game after a loss and now Lester is 0-2 on the season as he tries to get things right against the Yankees.
The team is last in the AL East right now with a 4-6 record and they come into the game at 21st in runs and 10th in batting average. The Yankees and Red Sox rivalry has cooled in recent years and now the two could start getting back at each other.
