MLB Trade Rumors: David Price, Jeff Samardzija, Rick Porcello, Zach Britton, Jacob Turner On Block As NY Yankees, Mariners, Pirates, Boston Red Sox Options?

The MLB season is still in the first half of the year, but that hasn't stopped trade rumors from cropping up, as names like David Price, Jeff Samardzija, Rick Porcello, Zach Britton and Jacob Turner all could be moved ahead of the deadline this summer, as pitching is at a premium and teams like the NY Yankees, Seattle Mariners, Pittsburgh Pirates, Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles could be interested in making moves.

Price is the name that has been mentioned the most when it comes to getting traded, as the Rays do not often give big contracts to players and after signing some of their younger pitchers, including Chris Archer to a huge deal for someone with his experience, it looks like Price is on his way out of town. Price is in his prime and is a Cy Young award winner and had Masahiro Tanaka not been on the market this offseason, he likely would have been traded. Tanaka kept the market at bay for Price, who had the chance to go to the Seattle Mariners, but said he would not sign and extension if that deal went down.

Samardzija came into the season at an interesting moment in his career, as he is getting old enough where he can be considered a front end starter for a team, but is still young enough to be in the mix for the Cubs. What the team needs to decide is weighing what they could get for him in a deal, as Samardzija will be past his prime by the time the Cubbies are contenders, so they will be mentioned in numerous trade rumors this offseason after agreeing with Samardzija on a one year deal worth $5 million after an extension did not work out. Last season Samardzija had one of his best season with a 8-13 record and a 4.34 ERA and he also had over 200 strikeouts in over 200 innings.

Porcello, Zach Britton and Jacob Turner all could be on the move as well, as the Tigers have a ton of money in their players and they still need to sign Max Scherzer, while Britton could be out since the Orioles have such a deep pitching staff. The same could be said for Turner, as the Marlins have some very hot prospects on their way to the majors and they could move that along with a deal involving Turner, who went 3-8 with a solid 3.74 ERA in 2013.

The Rays are in a very interesting position coming into the season, as they have Price in their stable along with a deep roster of talent in the minors and the majors when it comes to pitching, meaning they could go down a number of avenues when it comes to trades. Price was mentioned this offseason as a potential trade chip and once Jeremy Hellickson, a former rookie of the year, returns to the team from an injury, they could start looking at a deal. The Rays have depth as well, with Erik Bedard and Mike Montgomery in the minors and they already have a young staff in Matt Moore, Alex Cobb and Archer, who are all younger than Price.
