NY Giants Rumors: Matt Flynn, Josh Freeman, Tim Tebow Backup Options With Eli Manning Injury As Derek Carr, AJ McCarron Draft Targets?

The NY Giants may look into signing a veteran quarterback like Josh Freeman or Matt Flynn heading into the end of April, as Eli Manning had ankle surgery and could miss the start of the offseason workout program and the team also could look to the draft for a new backup, as names like Derek Carr, David Fales, Aaron Murray and Zach Mettenberger all could be available as options for the future, while Tim Tebow is just a joke option we had to throw in there.

Manning injured his ankle in the season finale against the Washington Redskins last season and he had surgery on it last week and will be out for six weeks and that means he will miss some of the beginning of offseason workouts. The injury is said to be nothing serious and will not prevent Manning from working in training camp, but with a new offensive coordinator coming in with Ben McAdoo and the horrible season Manning had last year, any time lost in the offseason is a concern. According to ESPN.com, the team has been thinking about possible future quarterback options, as Manning could be on the decline and the team has to wonder if he will pull back after the struggles last season.

Manning had a rough season with 27 interceptions and while most of that was on him, the Giants had a terrible offensive line and rushing attack along with a diminished wide receiving corps and that all contributed to the bad season as well. The team has reportedly looked into Josh Freeman and Flynn could also be an option after he was with the Green Bay Packers and the team could make a move to ensure they have a veteran along with backup Curtis Painter and last year's fourth round draft pick in Ryan Nassib.

The draft this season has a number of quarterbacks in this class with names like AJ McCarron, Tajh Boyd, Aaron Murray, Zach Mettenberger, Derek Carr and David Fales and the Giants could look to take one of those players in the later rounds. Manning has had his struggles at times, but last year was terrible and now 2014 will be important for Manning to show that he is not regressing after winning two Super Bowl championships and MVP awards. The team needs a productive season with Rueben Randle and they also could go after a player like Mike Evans with the number 12 pick in the draft in the first round after he had a very productive season in 2013.
