Terrelle Pryor Trade Rumors: Oakland Raiders Deal Unlikely, Arizona Cardinals Seek Carson Palmer Backup if QB Released as Buffalo Option with EJ Manuel Hurt

Terrelle Pryor wants nothing more than to be traded sooner rather than later. The feeling is mutual. The Oakland Raiders have been trying to shop the quarterback ever since he requested a move when Matt Schaub was brought on. Things have not gone well as Pryor still remains with the team. Now, general manager Reggie McKenzie will attempt to make one final push for a trade before offseason workouts begin.

According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com, the Raiders are trying to get a deal done for Terrelle Pryor before the offseason program begins on Monday. They have been shopping Pryor since the NFL meetings during the scouting combine. They have yet to find a deal. The likelihood that they do find one is almost slim to none. Several teams have crossed their names off the list of needing another quarterback. After Josh Freeman and Matt Flynn signed, the Packers and Giants are just two more teams not interested.

The Raiders really have no leverage when it comes to an asking price for Pryor. Yes, the quarterback has shown he has excellent potential in becoming a true starter in the NFL. However, the Raiders picked Pryor up in the supplemental draft, essentially meaning they got him for nothing. That means Oakland cannot command a lot in a trade which could be holding up potential deals. At most, the Raiders could get a seventh round or future draft pick, but even that is a stretch.

The other issue is that most teams are aware that the Raiders will release Pryor if no deal is made meaning the quarterback will come cheaper. Oakland has Matt Schaub as their starter and Matt McGloin as their backup. They are also projected to draft a rookie in an early round to be the future of the team. That leaves Pryor as the odd man out. He does not want to be there, Oakland does not need him and a release is the likely future. So who picks him up?

The Buffalo Bills could be an option. The team has EJ Manuel, but despite public comments of support, the coaching staff needs another potential starting option. Thad Lewis and Jeff Tuel and not a long-term option should Manuel get injured again.

The other option could be the Arizona Cardinals. Carson Palmer made headlines on Wednesday hinting at his retirement in the near future. He told reporters that he would understand if the Cardinals drafted a quarterback to begin developing under him, but the team could always make a move for Pryor now and wait on a rookie next year when the crop looks better. Pryor and Palmer have positive history together and Arizona could get him for cheap.
