The Boston Red Sox are playing the Patriots Day game on the TV schedule on Monday and the matchup against the Baltimore Orioles comes as the Boston Marathon is set to get underway and it comes a year after the tragic events of the Boston bombing and will be a somber and inspirational day for the Sawx and David Ortiz one year after the events and it starts up at 11 am ET from Fenway Park and is on TV and streaming from the MLB Network.
The bombing happened as the Red Sox were playing last year and the two bombs injured over 250 people and killed three and Boston came around to rally the Red Sox last season. The team won the World Series and now they will continue their usual tradition of playing an early game on Patriots Day and it comes as the team has played well recently, improving to 9-10 on the season and they had a ceremony on Monday to honor the victims and now they will finish the series with the important game on Monday.
Wei-Yin Chen will be on the mound for the Orioles against Clay Buchholz and he comes in after getting a win against the Rays and Buch comes in after a no decision against the White Sox and each pitched six innings in those games. Chen had a rough game the last times he's pitched against the Red Sox and now he will try and get past that to rebound and give his team a win.
The Red Sox are now third in the AL East after starting the season in the bottom of the division and they ended up getting the win in the ninth inning and now they will have the early start on Monday. The team is ranked 24th in runs scored this season and 24th in batting average and they are 27th in slugging and 13th in on base percentage in the early goings. The pitching has been solid and they are ranked 11th in ERA, fourth in quality starts and 17th in WHIP and the team is also 24th in BAA.
The Orioles are tied for third in the AL East and they are ranked fifth in batting average and 23rd in runs scored and the team is 16th in on base and 15th in slugging percentage. The pitching has been up and down and they are 29th in batting average against and 24th in WHIP and the team is also 29th in quality starts and 18th in ERA this season.
The Red Sox won on a run by Dustin Pedroia after an off-target throw by outfielder David Lough and that gave the team the win and now the 118th martahon will come on Monday as the team plays the traditional Patriots Day game. The tragedy last year was crazy and now the team can get back to baseball for all the victims, as they took a stand for Boston and helped the Boston Strong mentality that kept the city going after the tragedy.
