Joe Madden, Davey Johnson Disagree on Joel Peralta Ejection

Tampa Bay Rays' relief pitcher, Joel Peralta, was ejected for having a foreign substance on his glove in Wednesday night's game.

The Washington Nationals' manager, Davey Johnson, said players were buzzing about pine tar in Peralta's glove. Out of curiosity, just to make sure, Johnson asked the crew chief, Tim Tschida, to check it out.

When the umpires and players met on the mound, Peralta did not refuse to show them what they wanted.

The umpires confiscated the glove and Peralta was ejected.

Joe Maddon had issues with this. He knows Peralta was a former pitcher of the Nationals and he accused Johnson of being a coward for using this against the relief pitcher.

"It's kind of a common practice that people have done this for years," Maddon said.

It would have been interesting to see what Maddon would have done had he known something like this about an opposing player.

Maddon is known for setting up unordothox defensive alignments, but apparently, he will never be known for being a snitch.

The Rays were unaffected by the removal of their pitcher. They went on to win the game 5-4.

Even though Peralta used the foreign substances on the glove, at least he did not put anything illegal in his body. Just ask Freddy Galvis.

Joe Maddon and Davey Johnson are two very savvy coaches. It will be interesting to see how both teams will react during Thursday's matchup.
