As the beginning of the London 2012 Olympics approach, the United States will begin to determine which swimmers will be participating in the games.
The Olympics begin in 37 days and by next Monday Americans will begin competing for the limited spots available in the swimming roster.
The Olympic trials will go from Monday, June 25th until the following Monday, July 2nd.
Four years later, Michael Phelps will be back to compete in the Olympics and attempt to add more medals to his already impressive collection.
Even though time has gone by, his impressive eight gold medals won in Beijing 2008 are still fresh in people's minds.
During the four-year break, Phelps was making news around the swimming world and it was not the news of his controversial pictures smoking marijuana that ended up on the internet.
Last year, in 2011, while everybody was worrying about the beginning of baseball, Phelps was participating in the Eric Namesnik Michigan Grand Prix.
Not only did he win races, but he broke two records.
He finished the Men's 200M free in record time 1:48:45. Fellow American Ryan Lotche, from Daytona, Florida, finished second slightly behind Phelps with 1:48:69.
Phelps then won the 100M fly with the record time of 52.30.
By the time the Olympics begin, Phelps will be 27 years old. He is currently 26 but his birthday will be on June 30th.
He would love to celebrate it with victories in the US Team Olympic trials.
