The EPL table has Liverpool on top of the English Premier League standings over Manchester City, but the Reds are not the favorite for the Barclays Championship this season, as they gave up a three goal lead to draw 3-3 against Crystal Palace and that leaves Man City with a match in hand and the goal differential heading into the final week and Survival Sunday 2014 on May 11.
The Premier League looked like it would be won by Liverpool as they pushed down the stretch, but then they slipped up against Chelsea at Anfield and now after the draw, they have only a one point lead over Man City. The team now has a match this week and then into the weekend and that could give Manchester the push it needs to get ahead, as they are already leading on goal differential. The three goals were huge for Liverpool, but they blew it by allowing three back in the second half and now their title is in question after they led the table for most of the second half of the season.
Manchester City won against Everton on Saturday and that gave the team a boost and now for the second time in as many weeks, Liverpool blew a chance to get the lead and seal up their title hopes, which would be the first in over 20 years. The team needed seven points over their final three matches before losing to Chelsea and now they are in a very tough position, as Man City is favored in both of their matches and the goals may not even need to come into play after the draw.
Crystal Palace could have given up after going down three goals, but they were able to storm back and now even Luis Suarez could add another goal at the end to get the win. The team now has a one point lead on the table, but that is not much heading into the final stretch, as Man City plays against Aston Villa on Wednesday and they could jump ahead there before continuing on Survival Sunday. Dwight Gayle was the man to do it and he added two goals after Damien Delaney added one in the back stretch and that came after goals for Liverpool from Joe Allen, Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez, who won the Golden Boot this year with the most goals in the EPL.
Liverpool has 99 goals over the 96 from Man City, but they still lead on goal differential and that match in hand will likely be the difference this year, as both come in now with 25 wins.
