Max Scherzer continues to be one of the best pitchers in baseball as the Detroit Tigers continue to enjoy the fruits of quality pitching. Scherzer has the chance to win seven straight stars as he continues to shutdown top batters. However, Scherzer is less concerned about his performance and more worried about the potential sweep the Tigers are facing as they finish their series with the Cleveland Indians.
Scherzer has one rough start to his name this year. After giving up four runs in five innings back at the start of April, he has given up just six runs over 39 innings in six starts that have all equaled wins. The reigning AL Cy Young winner is 6-1 on the season with a 1.83 ERA. The six-game win streak is his second in two seasons. In his last start, he did not allow a run while pitching over six innings as the Tigers got the 1-0 run over Boston. He did walk four batters, something he would like to get lowered.
Scherzer does not have the best history against the Indians. He is 0-3 with a 7.48 ERA in four starts. The Tigers have won five in a row prior to losing on Monday. It ended their 11-game road win streak as the team is now at risk of getting swept.
The Indians have bounced back after a recent four-game skid and took the Tigers for eight runs in the series. The team will send Zach McAllister who is 3-4 with a 5.36 ERA on the year. He is 0-4 in his last five starts with a 8.72 ERA since winning his first three during April. He recently gave up a three-run home and a grand slam in an 11-1 loss to Oakland. In his last start against the Indians, McAllister gave up one run in six innings as Miguel Cabrera is 2 for 8 against the pitcher, but is currently on a 15-game road hitting streak.
