San Diego Chargers Rumors: Ryan Mathews Trade Possible With Antonio Gates As Malcom Floyd Returns After No-Shows At OTA Workouts?

The San Diego Chargers are coming into year two under head coach Mike McCoy and while the team looks to be trending upwards after last season, both Ryan Mathews and Antonio Gates were no-shows along with Dwight Freeney, Jeromey Clary and Jonas Mouton at OTA workouts this week and even though those workouts are voluntary, it has some wondering if the players are upset about contracts or if a trade could be possible this season.

It's too early to speculate on anything regarding trades or contracts, but the Chargers did sign Donald Brown to a deal in the offseason and that could be one thing that bugs Mathews. According to ESPN.com, Mathews had the best season of his career last year but is now into the final year of his deal, while Brown was signed to a three year deal in the offseason and that means he technically has a higher salary now than Mathews in this contract year. Mathews had 1255 yards and six scores last season while finally remaining healthy for the first time in his career and now he comes back looking to do more for the Chargers, but he has not yet come into team activities and it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

The 26 year old will be looking for a new contract after this season and he comes in after having a very productive year under McCoy. The team also welcomed back Malcom Floyd and that was big news, as he missed the majority of the season after suffering a neck injury in 2013. The Chargers are hoping that he can return healthy as well.
