Oakland Raiders Rumors: Matt McGloin Trade With Andre Johnson Option For Houston Texans Before 2014 Season?

The Oakland Raiders are coming into the season with high expectations in 2014 and this summer a trade for Andre Johnson and Matt McGloin could be a potential deal for the Houston Texans if head coach Bill O'Brien feels that Tom Savage is not ready to start and while this is a very unlikely trade this late in the offseason, it could work for the Raiders if Derek Carr wins the backup QB job behind starter Matt Schaub.

There are a number of moving pieces when it comes to these two teams and the potential trade and while yes, it's very unlikely, ESPN.com writer Field Yates mentioned the possibility of an O'Brien and McGloin reunion last month and that could happen down the road. The Texans have been dealing with a frustrated Andre Johnson and while he has not demanded a trade, it could be coming soon and one of the main reasons is because the team passed up on some names in the draft and the free agent market to take Tom Savage and to Johnson that doesn't sound like a winning formula.

Savage has limited experience coming out of college and names like Case Keenum and Ryan Fitzpatrick do not bring much excitement either. Getting McGloin won't make Johnson stay, but he showed last season that he could be a solid starter in the league and while one deal could swap the two, another could simply just bring McGloin to Houston. According to SI.com, the Patriots and the Texans have spoken a little about a Ryan Mallett trade this offseason, but no deal has come close to going through. The Patriots could afford to give up Mallett now as he gets into the last year of his contract since they drafted Jimmy Garoppolo, but they may want a more experience backup for the time being.

The Raiders could be thinking the same thing with McGloin and that could be one reason why he doesn't get traded, as they would rather have Derek Carr work his way up and get the backup job later before starting in the future. Last season McGloin played in seven games and started six of them and threw for 1,547 yards with eight touchdowns and eight picks. The Raiders have gone 4-12 in each of the last two seasons and are looking to improve this year.

The Texans are coming off of a rough season at 2-14 and that is one reason why Johnson is not pleased. Last season he had over 100 catches and 1,400 yards, but the team lost 14 straight games after some thought they were Super Bowl contenders coming into the year. Both teams are looking to improve and could help each other out down the line. The Texans picked Jadeveon Clowney number one and avoided Carr due to the David Carr connection and they later took Savage, who bounced around before settling with Pitt, but he has not played as much over the past couple years as other names in the draft.
