The French Open 2014 final round has Rafael Nadal the winner over Novak Djkovic for his ninth career Roland Garros title and he won in three sets on Sunday.
The French Open final has Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic matching up for the men's championship at Roland Garros and it's live from NBC on TV and on the NBC Sports Network Live Extra on Saturday morning starting up at 9 pm ET and the match is streaming from Philippe Chatrier after Maria Sharapova won the championship trophy over Simona Halep when they played on Saturday.
Nadal and Djokovic will be playing for the number one ranking in the world and Nadal has plenty on the line, as he could be the first player to to win five straight titles at Roland Garros. Nadal comes into the match only having lost one set in the tournament to this point and that was against David Ferrer in the opening set of the quarterfinals, but he quickly bounced back from that and ended up taking the next three sets to advance. Nadal has only lost one time at the French Open and that came back against Robin Soderling and he has a 65-1 record heading into the final.
The matchup a couple years go featured a rain delay that some felt helped Nadal, but either way, this is the best matchup anyone could ask for on the men's side of the draw, as it will be a historic feat or a career Grand Slam depending on who wins. Nadal and Djokovic have played in the semifinals in 2006, 2007 and 2008 before playing in the final in 2012 and in the semis in 2013. Nadal is going for his 14th career Grand Slam title and that would put him in some rare territory and this comes at a tough time, as Djokovic has won the past four times they have played.
Djokovic won in the run up to the tournament against Nadal and that was in Rome in the final last month and now they will face off again and this time it will be a five set match. The winner of the match gets the number one ranking in the world and Nadal would put himself into the top echelon of records, tying Martina Navratilova with nine wins at one major. Nadal opened his match with a 3-0 lead in the first set before a break and Murray did not have much after playing a five set match in the quarters and now Nadal is through to the finals while losing just one set during the run through Paris.
Pete Sampras has 14 majors but he never won the French and Nadal comes in with eight titles in Paris as well as two wins at Wimbledon, one win at the Aussie Open and also two wins at the US Open. The weather cooperated for the semifinals sets and it was also good for the women's final on Saturday. Djokovic has won six championships at majors and he has not won at Roland Garros yet and this will be an epic matchup for the top seed and Djokovic looked good coming in and he has the recent wins behind him. Nadal is looking very good and also has confidence coming into the match after dispatching Ferrer and Murray.
