The Houston Rockets have some major plans this offseason and a trade for Rajon Rondo, Kyle Lowry or Kevin Love could be in the cards along with targeting Carmelo Anthony in free agency and that could means trades for the team involving Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin, Chandler Parsons or Patrick Beverley to help create a Big 3 in Texas with Dwight Howard and James Harden.
The Rockets are coming into the offseason after losing in the first round of the playoffs to the Portland Trail Blazers and that was a disappointment after the team had home court advantage in that series. The first season with Dwight Howard in the fold was a successful one that saw the team win 54 games to defy some early expectations, but going out in the first round was not the way GM Daryl Morey wanted the season to end and now major moves could be coming. According to ESPN.com, the Rockets are planning on making a run at Carmelo Anthony and if that doesn't work, the team could go after Love or Rondo as well. The team has pieces to move and trades they can make, but it will take some master work from Morey.
Rondo is a main target along with Love and the team has to decide on Chandler Parsons and his option, as he could be a restricted free agent if it's declined. The team may have to lose him while trading Asik and Lin for any chance at Rondo, Anthony or Love, but it could be worth it for Morey. The Rockets are in position to make moves and they could be big players this offseason.
Anthony is going to be an interesting player to watch in free agency, as he is likely to opt out of his deal with the Knicks and he has some very solid options in Houston and Chicago. Both teams are planning on making runs at him and they are much closer to a championship than the Knicks are. Adding Phil Jackson and Derek Fisher is a good start and that may help keep Anthony in NY, but he is weighing his options and it's a real possibility he could leave.
The Knicks did not have a great season and Anthony missed the playoffs for the first time in his career and that's never a good way to get into free agency. Adding to all that is the report from ESPN.com that Miami could also be going after Anthony, as they could being him in to form a Big 4 and that would be insane. The Heat would need LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh all to opt out and then sign back for less money, but they have done that once and could do it again to get Anthony in the fold.
James and Anthony are friends and the King said he would be interested in playing with Anthony and while his game may not be suited for Miami, he wants to win championships. The Kicks are a couple years away at least and they have moves they can make and that include trades of Amar'e Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler among other players.
