France and Switzerland are playing live on the World Cup 2014 schedule in Brazil on Friday and the game starts up at 3 pm ET for the Group E match and the game is live on ESPN and streaming from the WatchESPN website from Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador and has France looking to try and lock up a spot in the knockout stage with a victory.
The French side has a ton of talent and they are matching up with a seeded Swiss team that has played well over the past two years and this should be the best matchup of Group E. These two teams were always considered the favorites of the group and France showed why with their commanding win over Honduras. The Swiss ended up winning 2-1 after a late winner against Ecuador and now they have a chance to try and get into the knockout round as well with a win here.
France comes in after winning over Honduras and while they are not the highest seeded team in their group they are the favorites of the draw. The Swiss side won their first game in group play as well and they have talent on their roster and while they are in the FIFA rankings, the team has not gotten much credit so far and they could be one of the dark horse teams leading into the knockouts if they advance.
The two South American teams in the group lost and that saw Ecuador fall after a late goal from the Swiss and now the two European teams have the advantage in this group. No European team has won the World Cup playing in South America and that makes it even tougher for teams like France and the Netherlands, as they have teams and history to overcome to win the cup.
The United States has the chance to do something special, as they opened up their group schedule with a win against Ghana and now they can really out the pressure on Group G with a win against Portugal on Sunday. The team got a goal from Clint Dempsey less than a second into the game and that gave the Americans some major momentum and they could use that against a Portugal side that will be playing with some anger after losing by four goals to Germany. The Portuguese team has Cristiano Ronaldo and that always makes things tough since he is one of the best players in the world.
England suffered some major heartbreak against Uruguay and now the team is likely done at the World Cup in the group stage for the first time in six tries. England opened with a loss to Italy and that game was in the amazon at the jungle stadium in Manaus and that took a lot of physical strength out of the English side and that may have affected to team a bit in the game against Uruguay. Luis Suarez returned to the lineup for the nation and he picked up right where he left off this season in England in the Premier League, scoring two goals to get his team three points in the group standings.
