The World Cup 2014 knockout stage schedule with the Round of 16 starts on Saturday, June 28 after group play finishes up and the last sixteen teams left in the tournament will get drawn into matchups and those nations will play in an elimination bracket to see who will make it into the finals to face off for the World Cup championship in Brazil.
The first matchup for the Round of 16 comes on Saturday, June 28 at noon for the winner of Group A against the runner up of Group B, while the next match is the Group C winner against the Group D runner up. The next day has those same matches, but with the opposite winners and runners up matching up in the games.
Brazil is one of the favorites to win the whole thing along with Germany, Argentina and the Netherlands now that Spain has been eliminated and that means there will be a new champion here this year. Spain won in 2010 in South Africa and now they are out after losing their first two matchups and winning their third game. The Group has Netherlands through along with Chile and the Dutch won on points and they also had the best goal differential and now those two teams are through.
Group C already has Colombia through even before the teams play their final matchups and those are coming this week. Ivory Coast is in position with three points, while Japan and Greece are tied at the bottom of the group heading into the next game. Costa Rica is through in Group D and England is the team that is eliminated from that group, while Italy and Uruguay will be playing to see the other team that makes is through. Costa Rica opened with two wins, while England was hit with two losses and now they have to regroup.
Group E has France at the top of things with six points, while Switzerland and Ecuador are next in the standings and they have three points each. Honduras hasn't won a game in years in the WC and they will be out soon, while the Swiss and Ecuador now have to battle for the final spot. Argentina is another team through and they have dominated their group, leading with six points and with Lionel Messi playing well, they have the chance to win it all.
Group G is the group of death and the United States had the chance to win and get into the next round, but naturally they didn't do it because the world is not fair and now they need a point against Germany to advance. Germany and the United States each have four points and they are the likely teams to get through, but they need a result in the final game and if Portugal and Ghana draw, that would send the teams through. Group H has Belgium leading Algeria and Russia is next in line and Belgium is already through and they could be a surprise team in this tournament as well.
